This Christmas – Give the Gift That Can Save a Life

Each winter, national heath agencies issue warnings to remind people of the dangers of Carbon Monoxide and how to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

Buying a friend or relative a Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector for Christmas may not have occurred to you.  But did you know that the standard (Retail brand) CO alarms are designed to protect healthy adults from high levels of carbon monoxide? The standard doesn’t require an alarm to ever alarm for concentrations below 70 ppm.  As a result, the standard CO detectors don’t fully protect the typical family – especially unborn babies, infants, small children and the elderly or the sick.

However, low-level CO monitors continuously scan for the presence of Carbon Monoxide and will alert you to the presence of low levels of CO in seconds – long before other monitors or detectors even begin to work.

Why is CO known as the silent, cold weather killer?

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is the most common cause of fatal poisoning. It’s often called the “invisible killer” because it is odorless and some of the symptoms are similar to the flu or other common illnesses:

  • Dizziness • Fatigue • Headache • Nausea • Irregular breathing

And since so many deaths occur as the result of defective or poorly operated home heating devices, CO has been termed the “silent, cold weather killer.”

So, when you are thinking about gift giving this year, consider a low-level CO detector to ensure you and your loved ones sleep safe and soundly each night.
